GRASSHEAD

The village of Gräshedens is located on the north bank of the Görälven River and is one of three small villages between Fulunäs and Grundforsen, which is located in the valley with the Sälenfjällen mountains to the south and Näsfjället and Fulufjället to the north.
Gräsheden probably got its name from the availability of pasture for the cattle owned by the people who settled in Sälen and Transtrand.
There are remains of bog ore extraction and historically the Görälven River has been used as a transport route for timber.
In Karl Erik Forsslund's "From the Sources to the Sea" Gräsheden is written about.
Gräsheden has always been known for its good supply of fish and the surrounding forests for their supply of berries, game and other things to feed people and their livestock.
The first permanent residents at Gräsheden were Erik Olsson and Kerstin Erdotter from Norra Branden who settled in Gräsheden in 1841. They probably lived in a small house to the far west next to a field where there are remains of a foundation. Further foundation remains indicate that there was some form of outbuilding, probably a barn/barn.
The farm in the picture above was taken apart in the 1930s and sold as firewood to the big cities, those were poor times, all that remains today is the well that was placed in the middle of the farm but today stands on its own in the middle of the field.
